At the request of the Salem School Division, SAEM partners with member congregations, Virginia Cooperative Extension and local restaurants/vendors to provide breakfast to all students for the 2 weeks of summer school.

During the last Summer School session, we provided approximately 1,000 meals for elementary school children and 600 meals for middle school and high school youth.

Each session had community leaders participating to offer guidance and support.

It was noted by the school administrators, that their students looked forward to starting their day with breakfast and the visit by the community leaders. Further, there was no reported disciplinary issues with the middle and high school students…the first year for this positive outcome.

As a result of this success, we are being asked to participate in future Saturday remedial programs in the Salem School Division.
